Dinner Guidelines
Timing
- Drop off dinner at Shelter no later than 5:00 p.m. It's OK to drop off ahead - please notify staff in this event so that they are prepared to reheat.
Balanced Meal
- Entrée – casserole, chicken, meatloaf, etc. (protein-rich)
- Salad – vegetable- or fruit-heavy salad
- Vegetable/side-dish – green beans, corn, casserole, other nutritious vegetable dish
- Starch – rice, potato, pasta, bread, etc.
- Drinks – juice or milk (please, no soda)
- Dessert – optional!
Quantity
- Will need to feed approx. 25-35 women and children per meal
- Entrée – extra-large aluminum baking pan
- Side dishes/veggies/starch – large aluminum baking pan
- Drinks – approx. 1.5 – 2 gallons
Items/Menus to Avoid
- Only meats and no vegetables (or vice-versa)
- Meat that is not thoroughly cooked (pink inside)
- Dishes that have been cooked ahead and not refrigerated
- Meals too small to feed everyone a healthy portion
