Volunteer Makes a Website Wish Come True for Building Futures with Women and Children

SAN LEANDRO, CA (April 24, 2002)— Just in time to promote its annual Art Reach fundraiser, Building Futures with Women and Children (BFWC), a nonprofit serving women and children surviving homelessness and domestic violence, is proud to announce today the launch of its website, www.bfwc.org.

BFWC relies on private and public sector funding, generous business donors, sponsors and volunteers to be successful in providing services that benefit the many homeless and battered women and children that come to BFWC each day seeking food, shelter, safety, and support. Flypaper (www.flypaper.com) donated the web hosting services, and Dana Dowell, a web designer/developer in San Francisco (www.redbeatle.com), donated her services to create and design the BFWC website.

“Volunteers like Dana Dowell are an essential part of BFWC. Dana’s work on the website enables BFWC to fulfill its mission by increasing its visibility in the community. We couldn’t have done it without her. She dedicated over 100 hours of volunteer service to code and design the website,” said Martha Garcia, Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator at Building Futures with Women and Children.

“I agreed to do the website because I strongly believe in the work that BFWC does. Once I was on board and fully entrenched in the project, I found that it was an absolute joy to work with the staff at BFWC!  Volunteering has never been such a pleasure,” said Dana Dowell, Web Designer/Developer for Redbeatle (www.redbeatle.com).

The website is a one-stop resource guide for victims of domestic violence and homeless women and children in the East Bay. The website also provides information on BFWC’s programs, crisis line, referral lists, support groups, volunteer opportunities, donation wish lists, and sponsorship opportunities for BFWC’s annual fundraiser Art Reach 2002.

Those interested in attending Art Reach 2002, can now visit the website to find information on how to purchase tickets and preview artwork that will be auctioned at the annual fundraiser.
